A 50-yard scoring run in the first quarter by Quinton Poole followed by a 42-yard TD run by Mathew Davids set Creek Wood on the road to a 60-21 win at Loretto on Friday.

Five different players scored for the Red Hawks (3-5). Creek Wood forced five fumbles — going on to score off two.

“Our message this week was throw the first punch, be the team that comes out, that’s the aggressor … be the one that gets that first stop on defense or scores on that first possession on offense and set the tone,” Creek Wood coach Justin Palmer said.

“The kids really took that, and it definitely showed tonight, and we were the ones that set the tone for the whole game and were in control the whole game.”

Creek Wood senior Jonathan McCloud led the Red Hawks with three touchdowns — two receiving and one on a 58-yard kickoff return in the fourth quarter.

“When I first fielded it, I thought I was going to drop it, so I got scared, but when I got it back in the groove I said, ‘I’m just going to take it and run,’” McCloud said.

Loretto (1-7) cut Creek Wood’s lead to 21-14 on a 3-yard TD run by quarterback Nicholas Kersteins and a 46-yard run by Lucas Nobles. Aaron Presley added a 56-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
