WHITE HOUSE The White House Heritage and Westmoreland prep football teams locked up for an 18-12 defensive battle that ultimately led to the Patriots winning the region championship last season.

On Friday night, it was White House Heritage that brought the defense … and the offense.

White House Heritage quarterback Austin Gunter connected on 6 of 9 passes for 120 yards and three touchdowns in the first half, leading to a 34-0 halftime lead and a 37-0 win over visiting Westmoreland in a match-up of former region rivals.

Westmoreland (4-4) managed only 50 yards of total offense in the first half while only crossing into White House Heritage territory once during the first 24 minutes.

“They’re a two-dimensional team that’s executes their offense really well,” Westmoreland coach Steve Harris said. “We had a tough time getting anything going against their defense, and they did a good job with what they do.”

Gunter connected on two of his three touchdown passes to senior Bransom Kramm, with another coming to Ryan Smith.

Thadd Baker and Chris Rippy had first-half touchdown runs against a Westmoreland defense that had a difficult time containing the White House Heritage offense.

The Westmoreland offense opened the second half with the ball on its own 20, and first-down runs by senior quarterback Bayle Kirk, junior wingback Hunter Crowson, and senior tailback Brandon Green put the Eagles into White House Heritage territory.

A 23-yard run by senior fullback Dylan Todd placed the ball inside the Patriot 20 yard line, but the drive was stopped at the 5 when a Kirk fumble on fourth down was recovered by Ryan Smith at the 4 yard line.

“We’ve got to get refocused with the bye this coming week and prepare for Cascade then Watertown,” Harris said.

Todd led Westmoreland with 66 rushing yards.

The loss snaps a four-game winning streak for Westmoreland. White House Heritage (4-3) extended its win streak to four games after the Patriots opened the season with three consecutive losses.

The Eagles resume play on Oct. 23, hosting Cascade.
