CLARKSVILLE  — The field was sloppy, but Springfield proved to have the better footing as three Yellow Jackets ran for more than 100 yards in a 36-6 victory over Kenwood on Friday night.

Springfield’s Isiah Bigbee finished with 119 yards on just eight carries, and Alan Gardner ran for 102 yards on 11 carries. Each scored two touchdowns.

Springfield quarterback Dewayne Buckner rushed for 116 yards on 12 carries and was 4-for-7 for 80 yards with a touchdown.

“Right now every win we can get is a big win, but this one was extra special because this is a team we could end up seeing in the playoffs in a few weeks,” Bigbee said. “Coming into this game, our coaches told us that we should be used to running in the rain by now because that’s all we’ve seen for the past three weeks.

“We just ran like we have been, and it worked out for us tonight.”

Tennessee High school football scores Week 8

Springfield (6-2, 3-0 5-4A) wasted no time, scoring two plays into its first drive when Bigbee broke loose for a 70-yard touchdown run.

On the second drive, Gardner went off tackle and outran the Kenwood defense for a 44-yard touchdown. The extra point was mishandled, but Malandis Holman scooped up the loose ball and took it in for the two-point conversion.

Kenwood (5-3, 2-1 6-4A) scored on a 7-yard Isaiah Lucas run but the two-point conversion failed.

Buckner almost got it done all by himself on the third series, breaking free for 62 yards before getting caught from behind, and then three plays later, Bigbee scored his second touchdown to make it 22-6.

Gardner finished off the next drive to make it 29-6, and the final blow was a 45-yard screen pass from Buckner to Talirico Cogshell to round out the scoring.

“I thought we executed great in the first half,” Springfield coach Dustin Wilson said. “We controlled the line of scrimmage, and we found something that worked pretty well out there tonight.

“With the lead the way it was at halftime, we encouraged our guys not to let up and keep playing hard, but we just seemed to be going through the motions. That’s something that will be addressed on Monday because we have big goals this season we still want to achieve.”
