Anderson, Hendrix lift Lady Rebel soccer into state tournament for first time

Abbie Anderson and Allie Hendrix, the Barleys/Blount Press Row Players of the Week, etched their names in Blount County high school soccer’s history books Sunday.

Anderson, a junior defender, got the goal, Hendrix, a junior goalkeeper, the shutout, and Maryville defeated Science Hill, 1-0, in the sectional championship match in Johnson City.

The win put the Lady Rebels in the TSSAA state tournament for the first time in program history. Maryville’s inclusion in the final eight is also the first for a Blount County girls team.

Maryville (16-5-2) meets Lincoln County (15-4-1) on Wednesday at the Richard Siegel Soccer Complex in Murfreesboro.

Match time is 7 p.m. CST.
