Four Henry County High School seniors have earned the chance to continue their football careers at the college level.

Patriots Matthew Counce, Haidar Zaidan, Brevin Odom and Gunner Osbron got to take part in the national signing day ceremonies Wednesday.

Counce started the busy day by signing with the University of Tennessee at Martin Wednesday morning at the HCHS fieldhouse.

He will be joining his brother, Caleb, who plays linebacker for the Skyhawks. He was joined by Patriot head coach James Counce Jr,. who is his father, and his mother, Kim, at the signing.

He played defensive end for the Patriots this season and ranked fourth on the squad with 57 tackles. He had seven quarterback sacks.

Later in the morning, Patriot kicker Haidar Zaidan received his scholarship papers from Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville.

Zaidan signed at the HCHS fieldhouse with his mother, Marjorie Zaidan, his sister, Khadijah Ruiz, and his brother-in-law, Jonathan Ruiz by his side.

Zaidan twice set the HCHS record last fall for the longest field goal, with his 52-yarder against Brentwood Oct. 23 now standing as the record.

He booted nine field goals last season to tie another school mark. Overall, he hit 42 of 46 extra-point kicks and was nine of 19 on field goal tries.

He also helped the Patriot defense by regularly kicking off into the end zone to force opponents to start at their own 20-yard line.

The scene shifted to Room 29 at HCHS in the afternoon with fullback Brevin Odom signing with Maryville College in Maryville.

Odom was joined by his father, Terry Odom, and his mother, Amy Odom.

He served as a devastating blocker in the Patriot rushing attack while also contributing 23 rushes for 157 yards and two touchdowns. He hauled in five passes for another 17 yards in gains.

Defensive tackle Gunner Osbron will be singing “Anchors Aweigh” when he arrives at the U.S. Naval Academy this fall.

He was joined by his parents, Shannon and Jamie Osbron, as he chose to play football for the Midshipmen.

Osbron ranked third on the Patriot defense with 72 tackles and he had five quarterback sacks this season.

Counce, Odom and Osbron were all members of the Patriots 2013 Class 5A state championship team.
