Prep Round-Up: Bison hold off Mt. Juliet

MT. JULIET The Station Camp High boys basketball team remained undefeated with a 61-55 victory at Mt. Juliet on Tuesday evening.

The Bison (27-0 overall, 13-0 in District 9-AAA) were outscored 28-18 in the fourth quarter after holding a 43-27 advantage entering the final period.

Station Camp led 11-10 after one quarter and 25-18 at halftime.

Junior point guard Chase Freeman led the Bison offensively with 18 points, followed by Thomas Zazzaro (14), Sawyer Taylor (10), Peyton Anderson (6), Kody Eden (6), Keaton Dotson (4) and Yalen Reed (3).

Austin Brown paced the Golden Bears (19-7, 9-4) with 15 points.

Station Camp won the previous meeting between the two teams by a 59-53 margin on Jan. 15.

>> The Lady Bison were unable to recover from a 22-4 deficit after the first quarter in a 53-42 loss at Mt. Juliet.

Station Camp (8-18, 3-10) outscored the Lady Bears in each of the final three quarters but trailed 35-20 at halftime and 47-35 entering the final period.

Sophomore Jane Deason and junior LaPraysia Ward scored 11 points each for the Lady Bison, followed by Emiline Payne (10 points), Olivia Delk (6) and Cassidy Fry (4).

Junior Tavie Bell led Mt. Juliet (15-7, 10-3) with 19 points.

Mt. Juliet won the previous meeting at Station Camp by a 59-38 margin on Jan. 15.

The Bison squads complete District 9-AAA play with at Gallatin on Friday before hosting Cane Ridge to conclude the regular season on Saturday.

Blue Devils roll past East Robertson

CROSS PLAINS The White House High School boys basketball team gradually pulled away on Tuesday evening, rolling to a 67-38 victory at East Robertson.

The Blue Devils captured a 73-48 win over the visiting Indians when the two teams played in White House on Nov. 23.

On Tuesday, the Blue Devils (13-10) led 13-11 after one period of play, 30-19 by halftime and 54-32 entering the final period.

White House junior forward Malik Morgan scored a game-high 22 points, and junior guard Bradley Cole provided 10 points, followed by Connor Hollis (9 points), Jared Ward (8), Logan Trimmer (4), Gavin Herrell (3), Luke Hopkins (3), Cole Pond (3), Noah Cook (2), Jim Headrick (1), Bryant Reynolds (1) and Marquise Williams (1).

East Robertson junior guard Isaac Howeth scored a team-high 12 points.

>> The Lady Devils were outscored in each of the final three quarters of their 50-41 loss.

White House suffered a 55-54 loss in the two teams’ earlier meeting.

On Tuesday, the Lady Devils (3-17) built a 15-11 lead after one period of play, but the two teams were tied at 20 at halftime.

The Lady Indians took a 37-32 lead into the fourth quarter.

Senior Tamalee Stradtner led East Robertson offensively with 12 points.

Junior forward Hailee Ellis scored 12 points to lead White House, and senior guard Lauren Felts and sophomore guard McKenzie Vaughn produced 10 points each.

Teammates Bryanna Allen, Alyssa Armstrong and Stephanie Palmer all scored three points.

It was the eighth consecutive loss for the Lady Devils.

After hosting cross-town rival White House Heritage on Thursday, White House concludes district play with a contest at Westmoreland on Friday evening and will host Portland on Monday.

Eagle squads roll past RBS

RED BOILING SPRINGS The Westmoreland High School boys basketball took control early on in Saturday evening’s 46-27 victory at Red Boiling Springs.

The Eagles claimed a 56-35 victory over the visiting Bulldogs when the two teams played in Westmoreland on Dec. 12 and then captured a 44-32 win when the two teams met in the quarterfinal round of the Macon County High’s Nera White Invitational on Dec. 28.

Saturday’s win was the fifth consecutive victory for the Eagles, who led 15-4 after one period of play and 32-9 by halftime.

Westmoreland senior guard Dalton Leath scored 17 points, and classmate Caleb Graves provided 11 points, backed by Zeke Webb (6), Lucas Garrison (5), Henry Hinton (4), Dylan Duffer (2) and Colton Pippin (1).

Sophomore Jordan Powell led Red Boiling Springs offensively with 12 points.

>> The Lady Eagles limited Red Boiling Springs to nine points in the second half of their 37-21 victory.

Westmoreland claimed a 32-30 victory during the two teams’ earlier meeting.

On Saturday, the Lady Eagles led 5-1 after one period of play and 15-12 at halftime before pulling away in the second half.

Westmoreland (21-3) limited the Lady Bulldogs to two points in the third period.

Lady Eagle junior forward Kaitlyn Norman scored a game-high 10 points, followed by Karley Smith (8), Haley Braswell (6), Peightyn Gross (6), Gracie Oliver (3), Darby Bowser (2) and Jesica Eppstein (2).

Junior Shaylee Ellingson led the Lady Bulldogs offensively with seven points.

Panther squads fall

PORTLAND The Portland High School boys basketball team suffered a 55-39 loss to visiting Wilson Central on Tuesday evening.

The Panthers dropped a 48-32 contest at Wilson Central on Jan. 15.

On Tuesday, Portland (5-21 overall, 0-13 in District 9-AAA) gradually had its deficit increase, trailing 18-11 after one period of play, 26-17 at halftime and 39-26 entering the fourth quarter.

Panther senior forward Caelum Utley scored a game-high 17 points, backed by Bryce Keith (7), Eric Kirk (7), Austin Hicks (3), Dawson Simmons (3) and Jay Crutchfield (2).

Wildcat sophomore Gavin Johnson scored a game-high 22 points.

It was Portland’s seventh consecutive loss.

>> The Lady Panthers suffered a 67-28 setback to district-leading Wilson Central.

The Lady Wildcats claimed a 63-44 win in the two teams’ earlier meeting.

On Tuesday, Portland (13-12, 6-7) was led offensively by seniors Al Chatmon and Cristina Herrera with seven points each, followed by Rachel Jennings (5), Mackenzie Trouten (5), Taylor Cole (2) and Erica Keen (2).

Wilson Central senior guard Kendall Spray – a University of Tennessee at Martin signee – scored a game-high 28 points, making six 3-pointers.

The Portland squads conclude the regular season by hosting Lebanon on Friday and with games at White House on Monday.

Lady Bucs take down Northeast

HENDERSONVILLE The Beech High girls basketball team claimed a 55-40 victory over visiting Clarksville Northeast on Saturday afternoon.

Beech outscored the visiting Lady Eagles by a 19-5 margin in the second quarter, taking a 27-13 lead at halftime. The Lady Bucs led 41-30 entering the final period.

Senior guard Deja Smith led Beech offensively with 25 points, followed by Kennedy Powell (7), McCall Decker (5), Savannah Jarratt (4), Ashley Conner (3), Reese Taylor (3), Joslyn Brinkley (2), Gracie Hines (2), Kendra Mueller (2) and Destiny Tinker (2).

Jazzmyn Simpson led Northeast with 22 points.

Then, the Lady Bucs suffered a 48-47 loss to visiting Lebanon on Tuesday evening.

Junior guard Zyrina Neuble’s basket with 2.7 seconds to play was the difference.

Lebanon outscored Beech by a 24-13 margin in the fourth quarter after the Lady Bucs led 34-24 entering the final period.

Beech (9-18 overall, 5-8 in District 9-AAA) led 9-8 after one quarter and 22-15 at halftime.

Both Smith and Taylor scored 16 points to lead the Lady Bucs, and Powell and Decker provided eight and seven points, respectively.

Senior forward Bailey Sells and junior center Caleah Shannon scored 10 points each to pace Lebanon (13-14, 6-7).

Beech won the first meeting between the two teams at Lebanon by a 48-44 margin on Jan. 15.

The loss guarantees that Beech will be the No. 6 seed in next week’s District 9-AAA Tournament at Portland. The Lady Bucs will either face Mt. Juliet or Hendersonville, depending on the outcome of Friday’s games.

>> Beech’s boys suffered a 59-58, double-overtime loss to Northeast.

Northeast outscored Beech by a 9-8 margin in the second overtime period. The Eagles led 11-9 after one quarter before Beech took a 22-19 lead at halftime. The Buccaneers led by a 35-33 margin entering the fourth quarter before Northeast rallied to tie the game at 46 to force overtime.

Sophomore point guard Ty Dean’s potential game-winning shot missed its target at the end of regulation.

Each team scored four points in the first overtime period, with the Buccaneer defense stopping Northeast at the end of the period.

Beech had the final possession in the second overtime, but was unable to produce a shot over the final 20 seconds.

Senior Ben Buhrow led the Buccaneers offensively with 17 points, followed by A.J. Robertson (15), Ty Dean (12), Noah Chatman (6), Caleb Walton (5), Nelson Smith (2) and Heath Pentecost (1).

Jontae’ Brown led Northeast with 20 points.

The Beech boys dropped a 63-52 contest to Lebanon.

The Blue Devils led 18-11 after one quarter, 31-23 at halftime and 47-35 through three periods.

Walton led Beech (15-12, 7-6) with 16 points, backed by Chatman (12), Buhrow (8), Smith (6), Dean (5) and Robertson (5).

Senior Kobe Neuble led Lebanon (20-5, 10-3) with 20 points.

Beech suffered a 58-56 loss at Lebanon in the two teams’ previous meeting on Jan. 15.

Beech plays at Hendersonville on Friday to conclude the regular season.

Knights knock off Baylor

CHATTANOOGA The visiting Pope John Paul II High boys basketball team outscored Baylor by a 21-10 margin over the second and third quarters en route to a 59-50 victory on Saturday.

The Knights led 33-28 at halftime and 44-32 after three quarters. The game was tied at 22 after the opening quarter.

Junior guard Jalon Cambridge led the Knights offensively with 16 points, followed by Ryan Hatten (12 points), Jayson Brown (9), Justin McMurry (9), Matthew Galvin (7) and Devan Cambridge (6).

The Knights improved to 19-6 overall and to 5-3 in Division II-Class AA East/Middle Region play.

>> The Lady Knights suffered a 72-39 loss at Baylor.

PJP II fell to 5-18 overall and 2-6 in region play with the loss.
