GALLATIN - Things couldn’t look much better for the Gallatin High girls basketball team as three consecutive points from senior guard Rene Hudson gave the Lady Wave a 30-28 lead with two minutes remaining in the third quarter.

However, the final two minutes of the quarter along with the fourth did not bode well for the Lady Wave.

Station Camp scored the next 16 points, outscoring Gallatin by a 36-9 margin over the final 10 minutes to hand the Lady Wave a 64-39 loss at Jerry Vradenburg Gymnasium on Friday evening.

Sophomore Carolyn Fitch’s career-high 18 points led three Lady Bison in double figures.

Station Camp (9-18 overall, 4-10 in District 9-AAA) awaits a coin flip between Hendersonville and Mt. Juliet to determine its opponent in its District 9-AAA Tournament quarterfinal contest.

Gallatin will play 9-AAA regular-season champion Wilson Central in its postseason opener.

“I feel like we’ve started to become a team closer to the tournament as we’re talking more and passing more, which is good for us,” Fitch said. “Early in the season, we weren’t doing that as much.”

Hudson scored 24 points, 11 of which came in the third quarter to help give Gallatin (5-18, 0-14) the lead.

An offensive rebound and putback by sophomore LaPraysia Ward gave Station Camp a 25-19 lead with less than six minutes remaining in the third quarter before eight consecutive points by Hudson gave her team a 27-20 lead.

The Lady Bison quickly reclaimed the lead, but Hudson’s basket and free throw gave her team a 30-28 advantage before Station Camp took control.

“By mid-third quarter, we got impatient and took some bad shots and allowed Station Camp to get going,” Gallatin head coach Malcolm Montgomery said.

Hudson poured in 27 points in a loss to visiting Hendersonville on Tuesday.

A basket by Ward, followed by three-pointers on the next two possessions by Fitch and sophomore Jane Deason came during the decisive run, pushing Station Camp out to a 44-30 advantage.

Station Camp junior Emiline Payne scored all nine of her points during the fourth-quarter spurt.

“Rene is a great shooter, and she did a lot of damage,” Station Camp interim head coach Jill Gregory said. “I thought LaPraysia Ward stepped up and did a good job at times of her trying to limit her shots, even though it’s very tough to do.”

Station Camp claimed a 59-44 victory in the first meeting between the two teams on Jan. 19.
