Former Hendersonville High and Volunteer State Community College Zac Curtis made his Major League Baseball debut in the Arizona Diamondbacks’ 5-2 loss to visiting Colorado on Saturday evening.

Curtis – a 2014 Middle Tennessee State University graduate – was called up for Saturday’s game from the Visalia (Calif.) Rawhide, the organization’s Class A advanced team.

Curtis came in after three runs had scored in the top of the ninth inning and threw just three pitches, inducing Gerardo Parra to ground into an inning-ending double play.

Curtis was a sixth-round draft pick by the Diamondbacks in the 2014 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. After spending the rest of the 2014 summer playing for the Hillsboro (Ore.) Hops, the left-hander converted on 33 of 36 save opportunities while playing for the Kane County (Ill.) Cougars in 2015.

He was promoted to Visalia to begin this season. In eight relief appearances this season, Curtis compiled a 1-0 record and a 5.23 earned-run average, striking out 22 hitters over 10 and 1/3 innings.
