The Trinity Christian Academy tennis program had a productive night on Monday as both Lion squads advanced to the District 15 A-AA championship in dominating fashion.

The boys swept Haywood 5-0, and the Lions didn’t allow the Tomcats to win a single game as all five TCA tennis players won 6-0, 6-0.

Ben Sidwell, William Richardson, Cam Presley, Clay Phillips and Vann Bryant all won seemingly won easily.

The Lady Lions came away with a dominating victory as well, which was also over Haywood. But the Lady Tomcats did manage to get one victory in to avoid the shutout at 4-1.

Lindy Tatum, Kennedy Brookfield, Adelaide Russell and Macy Reed all got wins for TCA.

Elizabeth Porter’s 7-5, 6-2 victory for Haywood put the Lady Tomcats on the scoreboard.

All of TCA’s winning players never allowed more than two wins in a set.

“We’re playing well right now, both teams are,” said TCA tennis coach Phillip Robinson. “There wasn’t a lot of time to get practice in between the end of the regular season last Tuesday and the beginning of tournaments, but they’ve done well so far.

“We played last Tuesday and then had the quarterfinals on Thursday, and it rained on Wednesday and Friday. So we came into today’s semifinals with no practice this week unless they got some on their own.”

The boys team will play Jackson Christian, and the girls will play Madison. The Mustangs and Eagles played each other in the other semifinal for both genders.

Both went into doubles competition, and the boys didn’t finish until after 9:30 p.m.

“There was a lot of competitive matches between them that went three sets,” Robinson said. “And doubles makes it so unpredictable because it’s a quick eight-game set instead of three-set match like in singles, so there’s not much chance to get reset and make adjustments.”

The championships will be played Tuesday at Jackson’s new tennis complex on Highland Avenue across from North Park.
