Adam Neelly sets Great 8 discus record

NASHVILLE Gallatin High senior Adam Neelly broke the Great 8 High School Invitational track and field meet record in the discus on Tuesday evening at Vanderbilt University’s outdoor track and field complex.

Neelly – a University of Memphis signee – had his best toss of the season at 181 feet, 1 inch, eclipsing the previous mark (174-6) set by his older brother, Brett Neelly, last season.

Middle Tennessee Christian School senior Sam Mathis placed second with a throw of 138-11.

Neelly also won the shot put with a throw of 55-11, more than six feet better than the second-place competitor (Wilson Central senior Braidon Miller, 49-4).

Beech senior Taylor Grayson – a King University signee – finished fifth in the girls shot put with a throw of 36-7.

Brentwood sophomore Katherine Coffey won the event with a throw of 42-1.

Station Camp senior Aaron Bristol placed fifth in the boys triple jump with a top effort of 42-5.

Ensworth senior Desmond Cambridge’s jump of 44 feet won the event.

Gallatin junior Ed’rico Briscoe placed seventh in the boys 400-meter run with a time of 52.32 seconds.

Pearl-Cohn sophomore Nixon Pierre won the event in 49.32 seconds.
