Ooltewah High Girls Soccer Again Getting Short Shrift

The Ooltewah High School girls soccer team is again getting the short shrift, boosters told the County School Board on Thursday.

Brian Volpe said supporters threatened to sue the school system over a decade ago under Title IX and were promised action. But he said it never came.

He said the school administration has failed the team over the years.

Volpe said the group will not be coming back before the school board, but he did not comment on the possibility of a lawsuit.

Team leaders said the new Ooltewah High Athletic Director, Brad Jackson, has informed the team that it cannot use the football field for Thursday night games because it will be getting painted for the next night's football contest.

The soccer team has two home matches scheduled on the night before Friday home football games as well as a possible district tournament match.

Supporters said moving the  game up in the day gets into sweltering heat and also is at a time when many parents are at work.

The team has been practicing at Christway Church's grassy field, but has been told that is not available this  season. The church is making a parking lot there.

Officials said the baseball coach is allowing use of the baseball field outfield for some soccer practices.
