As Camden’s Hunter Vick continued through the recruiting process over this past summer, one school stuck out to him over all the others.

On Wednesday night, Vick made the decision final as he committed to play college basketball at Tennessee Tech.

“I have been thinking about this all week,” Vick said. “I have been talking to my parents about it. I love Coach Steve Payne, the gymasium and the workout facilities. I was scared that someone else would commit before I did, so that drove me to go ahead and make the decision.”

Vick visited the campus over the summer, and he has an offical visit scheduled Sept. 16. He feels like this is the program he wants to be a part of for the next four years.

“Two of the assistant coaches played for Coach Payne and came back to coach under him,” Vick said. “That says something about the program. I love the atmosphere, and I loved the whole feel there.”

Vick had other offers he was considering, but he wanted to stay close to home. Tennessee Tech is in Cookeville, which is about two-and-a-half hours from home.

After being one of the top scorers in West Tennessee last season, Vick is focused on his senior season that begins in November.

“It feels like the weight of the world has been lifted off of my shoulders,” he said. “Now I can enjoy my senior year and try to win the district and go as far as we can.”

Knowing that he now has the opportunity to play on the NCAA Division I level for the next four years is motivation for Vick.

“I am working out every day and shooting every day,” he said. “I am pushing myself to get better. This is a dream come true.”

Vick was named to the All-West Tennessee Boys Basketball First Team last year after averaging 26.9 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 3.0 steals in leading the Lions to the Region 6-AA quarterfinals.
