The post-Week 1 top 10 rankings in high school football according to the Tennessee Associated Press is out, and two local teams are closing in on the top spot in their respective classifications.

Dresden remains the No. 2 team in Class 1A, but Liberty moved up a spot to No. 2 in Class 3A.

Christ Presbyterian Academy lost a showcase game in Georgia over the weekend and dropped to No. 5 in the rankings.

Liberty moved up in the Lions’ previous spot behind No. 1 Alcoa.

State football poll after Week 1

Milan remains at No. 6, while Dyersburg and Covington held their spots at Nos. 9 and 10.

Dresden stays right behind defending state champion Nashville Christian and just ahead of Union City, who’d won the previous two championships.

Huntingdon moved up a spot to No. 5 after South Pittsburg lost and dropped from No. 4 to No. 7.

The Mustangs’ season officially begins Friday when they host Camden.

“We’re looking forward to it,” said Huntingdon head coach Eric Swenson. “I’m not a big fan of starting a week after everybody else, but I’m OK with not having a break in the season so we can stay in our routine.”

Adamsville remains the No. 4 team in Class 2A, while McKenzie dropped a spot to No. 8 despite getting a win over Dyer County from Class 4A.

Trezevant is still the top-ranked team in Class 2A.

Lexington is the highest-ranked local team in Class 4A at No. 7, but Hardin County moved up a spot to No. 9.

Knoxville Catholic is No. 1, but the rankings came out before Catholic was hit Monday with a loss for playing an ineligible player during their win over Morristown West over the weekend. So the top-ranked team in 4A technically has an 0-1 record.

Henry County is the No. 9 team in Class 5A, while Independence has the top-ranked team.

The top nine teams in Class 6A remained the same, so Maryville is still on top of the largest classification in the state.

Brentwood Academy held on to its spot at the top of Division II, and Lausanne is the highest-ranked team in Division II-A at No. 6, which is up a pair of spots from last week. The Division II poll combines A and AA together.
