Rivalry games highlight Week 2

There aren’t a lot of games this week where teams are playing that main rival their fan bases have circled on the calendar every year, but there are some heated annual games happening tonight.

Here’s a list of those games and how big they could be for early momentum for each team.

University School of Jackson at Trinity Christian: This one wasn’t much of a rivalry until TCA won two in a row emphatically.

The Bruins got the momentum in the series back last year with a big win of their own.

Both teams need this win to get their first before starting region play next week.

USJ, TCA seek 1st win vs. each other

Humboldt at Milan: This is one of the oldest rivalries in rural West Tennessee, and Milan has owned this one recently with wins in the last two years by a combined score of 83-12.

Both teams grabbed big wins last week, but we could get a better look at how good both teams are when they face each other.

Lexington at Riverside: It’s been a while since Riverside competed well with the Tigers, but that doesn’t mean the Class 2A Panthers don’t enjoy challenging the 4A Tigers from across the county line.

With this being Lexington’s first game, it could be a good chance for Riverside to jump on the Tigers early and take advantage of already having a game under their belts.

Chester Co. at McNairy Central: This is an interesting game if for nothing else but the fact the teams have had so much movement on both their rosters, it’s hard to say who will actually take the field for both teams in Week 2.

McKenzie at West Carroll: The War Eagles haven’t had much success with the Rebels over the years, and McKenzie has a team capable of winning a region championship this season.

But West Carroll competed well against another county rival last week and could be motivated to do the same this week.

Hardin Co. at Adamsville: No matter when these teams meet, it’s a big game.

The roads in Savannah and Adamsville will probably be clear between 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. because so many people will be at this game.

Adamsville, Hardin Co. set for playoff tune-up

Camden at Huntingdon: Huntingdon’s uniforms are primarily blue. Camden’s uniforms are primarily black.

As hard as these teams hit, players from both schools will probably wake up Saturday morning sporting both colors from all the bruises they will suffer during this one.
