Milan's Taylor Lockhart hands off to Jacquez Norman on against Humboldt.

MILAN - The 98th meeting between the Milan Bulldogs and the Humboldt Vikings was put on hold for 90 minutes on Friday night as thunderstorms moved through the area.

Once play resumed, Milan wasted no time getting the scoring started as they scored in every quarter on their way to a 31-0 shutout over the Vikings.

This win for Milan makes three consecutive wins over Humboldt in the series.

“I thought once we got out there and got a chance to play, our guys played really well,” Milan head coach Jeff Morris said. “The weather was tough for both teams tonight, but I thought we picked up a quality win over a good Humboldt team. They have some good talent over there and several nice athletes.

“I feel like we were just able to wear them down throughout the game with our depth.”

Milan scored their first touchdown of the game on a 13-yard pass from Taylor Lockhart to Cameron Oliver with 3:46 left in the first quarter.

Milan added another touchdown on a seven-yard touchdown run from Jacquez Norman in the second quarter to make the score 14-0 at the half. Norman led Milan in rushing as he finished with 114 yards on 15 carries.

Milan added two more touchdowns in the third quarter as Spencer Walker and Blake Miller both scored on 11- and 1-yard rushes, respectively.

Milan booted a 20-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter to make the score 31-0.

With the win, Milan moves to 2-0 on the season and will travel to Liberty next week for a big region match-up.

“Liberty is a barometer of where we will see where our team is right now,” Morris said. “They beat us pretty good last year, but we feel like we are a better team this year. They are very good so we will see if we have closed the gap between last year and this year.”

With the loss, Humboldt falls to 1-1. They will also have a region game next week as they host South Fulton.
