Blackman junior Master Teague rushed for a career-high 332 yards on 48 carries in Blackman’s 35-21 win over Cookeville.

The Patriots, who are ranked No. 2 in the Associated Press’ Class 6A statewide poll, scored touchdowns off a blocked field goal, punt return and kickoff return to help remain undefeated.

Quantez Parks returned a blocked field goal 81 yards for a touchdown. LSU recruit JaCoby Stevens returned a punt 82 yards for a score and Justin Jefferson later returned a kickoff 90 yards for a score.

The Patriots (5-0, 3-0 2-6A) have scored five special teams touchdowns and have outscored their opponents 173-20.

Oakland coach Kevin Creasy credited first-year special teams coordinator Kyle Shoulders, who had been the Red Boiling Springs coach.

“We felt like we could block a field goal,” Creasy said. “JaCoby just made a great play on the punt return.”

Jefferson, who is a backup returner, scored his TD on the second-half kickoff.

Master is back

Master Teague’s return to the high school football field after missing the past two and a half games due to a concussion was a memorable one.

Teague, a Blackman junior running back with offers from multiple schools, including Tennessee, Vanderbilt and South Carolina, rushed for a career-high 332 yards on 48 carries and scored three touchdowns in the Blaze’s 35-21 win over Cookeville.

“Everybody in the house knew who was getting the ball,” Blackman coach David Watson said. “We were just trying to make them guess what side. And he responded — he’s a warrior. You saw it.

“When everybody knows who’s getting the ball, for him to run it like that and for the O-line to block like they did, I’m proud of them.”

The win snapped the Blaze’s two-game losing kid.

Touchdown Ty

Tennessee commitment Ty Chandler provided the offense Friday night for Montgomery Bell Academy. The defense did the rest.

Chandler scored all three of the Big Red’s touchdowns in their 21-10 win over Father Ryan. Chandler had 196 yards on 26 carries.

Father Ryan finished with just 210 yards.

Ensworth clamps down

Ensworth’s defense continued its strong play in the Tigers’ 43-0 rout of Christ Presbyterian Academy.

Ensworth held CPA to just 95 total yards in the win and recovered three of CPA’s five fumbles. The win was the first via shutout for Ensworth this season. It is giving up just 12.3 points a game.

Stat of note

Middle Tennessee Christian School (6-0) racked up 428 yards on the ground in the Cougars’ 69-22 rout of Pickett County on Friday night.
