ELITE EIGHT: Camden volleyball stays No. 1

This past week seemed to be full of crazy matchups. Monday night there were two matches that went five sets with Lexington beating Dyer County and Trinity Christian Academy defeating University School of Jackson.

There were also upsets like Chester County beating Crockett County in four sets.

But in the end Camden continued to play at a high level to remain in the No. 1 spot.

District tournaments begin Monday so here are the No. 1 seeds: Halls (13-A), TCA (15-A), Camden (11-AA), Dyersburg (13-AA), Ripley (15-AA) and Dyer County (13-AAA).

South Side can secure the No. 1 seed in 14-AA with a win over Chester County on Thursday.

So here is the new volleyball Elite Eight:

1Camden (11-AA) (28-2) – The Lady Lions are still unbeaten in non-tournament play, and they reached the semifinals of the Crockett County Classic. Results: Beat Madison, Lewis County; Went 4-1 in Crockett County Classic. Last week: No. 1.

2South Side (14-AA) (34-5) – The Lady Hawks reached the championship match of the Crockett County Classic, and they are unbeaten in 14-AA play. Results: Beat Bolivar, McNairy Central, Lexington; Went 4-1 in Crockett County Classic. Last week: No. 2.

3Crockett County (13-AA) (21-9) – The Lady Cavaliers won their own tournament over the weekend, but they lost two other matchups on the week. Results: Beat Milan; Lost to Dyersburg, Chester County; Went 5-0 in Crockett County Classic. Last week: No. 3.

4TCA (15-A) (21-7) – The Lady Lions reached the semifinals of the Crockett County Classic, and they secured the No. 1 seed in 15-A. Results: Beat Middleton, USJ, Madison; Went 3-2 in Crockett County Classic. Last week: No. 4.

5Lexington (14-AA) (28-12) – The Lady Tigers went to play in a tough tournament in Arkansas, but they did go 5-1 outside of the tournament. Results: Beat McNairy Central (twice), Liberty, Madison, Dyer County; Lost to South Side; Went 1-3 in Jonesboro (Ark.) Tournament. Last week: No. 5.

6Chester County (14-AA) (14-12) – The Eaglettes pulled off another upset with a 3-1 win over Crockett County to go 2-0 on the week. Chester County travels to South Side on Thursday. Results: Beat Crockett County, Scotts Hill. Last week: No. 7.

7Middleton (15-A) (21-10) – The Lady Tigers won the Silver Bracket in the Crockett County Classic. Results: Beat Fayette Academy, South Gibson; Lost to TCA; Went 4-2 in Crockett County Classic. Last week: No. 6.

8South Gibson (13-AA) (10-10) – The Lady Hornets are staying around .500 on the season, but they are looking to pick up wins next week to reach the region semifinals. Results: Beat Liberty; Lost to Milan, Middleton. Last week: No. 8.

Teams eligible for the Dirty Dozen rankings are those who represent schools from The Jackson Sun’s 13-county circulation area: Madison, Gibson, Henderson, Chester, Hardeman, Haywood, Crockett, Weakley, Carroll, Benton, Decatur, McNairy and Hardin.
