Crockett County’s Kerri Love was involved in a car accident during her sophomore year, and that is when Love felt God’s presence the most in her life.

“I don’t remember the wreck happening, but I remember waking up with my arm trapped,” Love said. “I couldn’t play for two weeks. They said if it would have been as much as six inches more on my side, I could have died.”

Love was lucky to escape with minor injuries. She continued to pray through the recuperation period so that she could get back on the volleyball court.

“My elbow was bruised completely on the elbow and underneath it,” she said. “I relied on God a lot. Any doctor visits or X-rays, I was praying to recover fast. It was my right elbow, so I couldn’t use my dominant hand.”

Love believes her Christian walk is similar to the sport of volleyball

“Everything I do, God has an influence on me,” Love said. “Volleyball is a team sport, and being a Christian is a team sport. You have to have other people with you.”

Kerri Love is the libero for the Crockett County volleyball team.

So she tries to share God’s love through volleyball.

“I try to remain faithful to the game and to God,” Love said. “Everything I do, I am blessed because of God.”

Love attends Alamo Church of Christ where she is active within the youth group with retreats, trips to water parks, going to RUSH at Freed-Hardeman and Fifth Quarter gatherings on Friday nights.

“[Crockett County coach Bobby] Rawson is my preacher, math teacher and coach,” Love said.

Love works hard on a daily and weekly basis to draw closer to God.

“I go to church, have devotionals with my team, pray and study the Bible,” she said. “It makes it easy to be on a team that is Christ-oriented. Having Rawson and teammates that believe the same as me allows me to enjoy the game so much more.”

Love had to really think when asked about her favorite story in the Bible.

“There are so many that I like, and there are so many different stories that impact in different ways,” Love said. “But the Crucifixion story would be my favorite. He is asking God to forgive them them even though He is on the cross and they are treating Him so badly.”
