Bolivar has been one of the surprise football teams in West Tennessee this season with its 5-0 record.

The Tigers have knocked off two of the better teams in Region 8-3A, but there’s another power in the league waiting to play them.

That team is Raleigh-Egypt, who comes to Hardeman County with a 6-0 record. The teams are the two final unbeaten teams in region play as well. This matchup looks like it could be the region championship game.

Big region games all around this week

If Bolivar were to win the championship, it would be another goal achieved by the program in the third season under head coach Woodrow Lowe.

Running back Dreke Lewis has been a big part of that transformation for the Tigers, and he appreciates the work Lowe has put in.

“He’s all about making each one of us better football players and making us work together for everything we do,” Lewis said. “I know that’s what he and the coaching staff have done with me, and I can see that happening with the rest of our team.”

The Tigers had last week off with their bye week. It was a chance to heal up some injuries, but Lewis said it was just another week to continue working.

“We’ve been working hard all offseason and all season so far,” Lewis said. “We set goals for ourselves – each of us individually and for the team.

“Just because we didn’t have a game last week didn’t mean we were going to take a break from working toward achieving those goals.”

Being the running back, Lewis said he respects the strong running game Raleigh-Egypt will bring to Bolivar. He doesn’t play defense much, but his younger brother, Jarion, is a linebacker. He said they talk about how they each need to do their jobs to help the team win.

“And that’s how we approach every game as a team,” Dreke Lewis said. “It’s our job on offense to score points. OK, we’re going to go and do that.

“If the defense does their job and stops their offense from scoring, then we should win. It sounds simple, but it works for us so far.”
