CCS Wins, Notre Dame Falls in A-AA State Soccer Tourney

MURFREESBORO -- Chattanooga Christian sophomore Addie Henry celebrated her 16th birthday in style here Wednesday night with a goal and an assist to help CCS defeat Madison Academic Magnet (Jackson, Tenn. – 16-5-3), 3-0, in a A-AA state quarterfinal match played at the Richard Siegel Soccer Complex.

Teammates Kyra Duble and Olivia Hoffman also scored goals, while Taylor Price posted the shutout with three saves.

"We came out with a lot of energy and no nerves and scored twice in the first five minutes of the match," said CCS coach Cal Sneller.

"We thought it was essential to score early and our defense did a great job all night allowing only four shots, three of those late in the match.

"If you can't shoot you can't score."

Duble opened the scoring in the second minute of the match on a pass from Kyla Wright, quickly followed by Olivia Hoffman's goal (5th minute) from Henry. Henry scored the final goal in the 32nd minute.

Thursday Semis: CCS (17-6-1) plays Christ Presbyterian Thursday at 7:30 p.m. EST in a semifinal match. The A-AA championship final is Saturday at 2:30 p.m. ... CCS beat CPA, on penalty kicks (3-2) in last year's state quarterfinals.

Greeneville 3, Notre Dame 0: Defending state champion Greeneville (24-1-0) scored two goals in the first eight minutes on the way to a 3-0 win against Notre Dame (6-13-2) in a quarterfinal match.

The Irish played solid defense with no goals allowed in the second half.

"We allowed Greeneville to score early on two mistakes and that really hurt is," said Notre Dame Jim Schermerhorn who has brought an Irish team to the state for 15 straight years..

"After those two goals we played them pretty even."

AAA -  Houston 6, McMinn County 1: Defending AAA state champs Houston (18-0-2) defeated McMinn County (13-10-1) , 6-1, in a quarterfinal match.  Houston faces Franklin in one semifinal match Thursday at 5 p.m. EDT.

McMinn's goal was scored by Morgan Hutchison in the 62nd minute.
