MURFREESBORO — The Battle Ground Academy girls soccer team suffered its second state championship loss to Evangelical Christian School in as many seasons Saturday, suffering a 3-1 defeat to the Lady Eagles at Richard Siegel Soccer Complex.

BGA (21-2-1), playing in its third straight Division II-A title match, fell behind early, surrendering a pair of late-first-half goals in a four-minute span, and the Lady Wildcats never quite recovered.

“ECS, they’re probably physically stronger than us at just about every spot on the field,” BGA coach Jan Morrissey said. “We did take some knocks, but we bounced right back up. That’s what you’re supposed to do in a game like that.”

ECS, which beat USN 2-1 in Friday’s semifinal, eventually extended its lead to 3-0 on Molly Martin’s 52nd-minute penalty kick.

Chloe Tremblay, a senior Lehigh commitment and a member of BGA’s 150-point club, was responsible for the Lady Wildcats’ only goal of the match, ripping a free kick past ECS goalkeeper Meredith Wicktom to narrow the gap in the 74th minute.

“I don’t think there is a shot she doesn’t like, and she’s done it all season long,” Morrissey said of Tremblay, who also provided the team’s lone goal in last season’s 4-1 championship loss to ECS. “To score that many goals in your high school career, she just has a drive, and she’s going to take that into college and do very well there.”

Allison Ellzev and Jordan Ricketts also scored goals for ECS, which snapped the Lady Wildcats’ 19-game winning streak.
