MILAN - Making the long trip to Milan on a Tuesday night, Adamsville’s girls basketball team picked up its second win of the season, defeating the Lady Bulldogs 50-37.

Three minutes into the game, Milan jumped out to the early 7-2 lead, but were outscored 15-6 by Adamsville during the rest of the period, giving the Lady Cardinals the 17-13 after one quarter.

Adamsville looked like they might break the game open in the second quarter after pushing the lead to 21-14, but Milan cut the lead to one with 1:37, before tying the game at 24-24 going into the locker rooms at halftime.

“We weren’t rebounding in the first half like we needed to,” said Adamsville head coach Chad Austin. “We couldn’t finish under the boards, but we switched our zone defense at halftime and it allowed us to dominate the boards in the second half.”

The Lady Cardinals took the lead back and for good in the third quarter, going up 28-26 with 5:12 left in the period. Adamsville finished the quarter on a 10-3 run to lead by seven going into the fourth quarter.

“With our motion offense, we stress the passing and movement,” Austin said. “We are a young team, so if we don’t move, we are in trouble.”

Adamsville’s lead never dipped below five in the fourth quarter, as the Lady Cardinals were able to close out the Lady Bulldogs in the final minutes for the 50-37 victory.

Milan’s Xzandrea Moore led all scorers with 17 points, but Sarah Shoate and Madison Hollin led the Lady Cardinals with 15 and 14 points respectively.

Milan drops to 3-2 on the season while Adamsville improves to 2-2.
