5 locals named to soccer all-state

The Tennessee Sports Writers Association released its all-state selections in girls soccer, and five players from West Tennessee were honored.

Four of the five players come from Jackson.

University School of Jackson had two players named to the Division II team with forward Abbey Fleming and goalkeeper Morgan Williams.

The Lady Bruins reached the sub-state round of the postseason before being eliminated.

Fleming, the 2016 All-West Tennessee Offensive Player of the Year, finished the season with 29 goals and 21 assists.

Williams, an All-West Tennessee First Team member, recorded 10 shutouts this season with a 0.5 goals against average.

The other three honorees came from Class A-AA in Jackson Christian's Catie Beth Hatch, Madison's Brittany Bray and Lexington's Chandler Holmes.

Bray, the 2016 All-West Tennessee Midfielder of the Year, led the Lady Mustangs to the Class A-AA state tournament. She finished the season with 32 goals and 16 assists.

Hatch, the 2016 All-West Tennessee Defender of the Year, was the anchor on the backline for the Lady Eagles this season. She helped Jackson Christian to a fourth straight state tournament appearance.

Holmes, an All-West Tennessee First Team member, led the Lady Tigers to the Class A-AA sectionals with 38 goals and 24 assists.

Holmes was the only junior honored from West Tennessee. The other four are all seniors.
