Hardin County bowling sweeps region titles

On Tuesday, the Hardin County bowling teams proved again that they are the best in West Tennessee as both teams brought home Region 7 titles and the right to host a sectional match in the coming days.

The Tigers won their 13th straight region title, while the Lady Tigers won their 11th straight region title.

In the championship, the Hardin County girls beat Dyer County 25-2, while the Hardin County boys beat Brighton 20-7 at Savannah Bowling Center.

The Lady Tigers will host a sectional match on Saturday for the right to go to the state tournament, while the Tigers will host a sectional on Monday.

The Region 7 Bowlers of the Year were announced also as Hardin County’s Ashley Channell and Savyon Pipes were honored.

In the girls’ semifinals, Hardin County beat Lexington 26-1. The Lady Tigers’ one point was scored in Game 2.

Haley Napper set the tone in Game 1 for the Lady Tigers with a 204. Abigail Smith (202) and Channell (204) had the high scores in Game 2.

The momentum continued into the championship match as Hardin County jumped out to an 8-0 lead on Dyer County after Game 1.

Faith Welch had the high score of Game 1 with a 236, while Channell bowled a 226 and Napper a 204.

Hardin County put the match away in the second game by scoring all eight points again for the 16-0 lead. Welch again led the Lady Tigers with a 233, while Channell added a 224.

Lacy Tims and Abbygale Hunt combined to bowl a 212 in the third game.

Hardin County girls are the three-time state champions, while Channell is the three-time individual state champion.

On the boys’ side, Hardin County opened with a 25-2 win over Dyer County in the semifinals.

High scores in Game 1 were Pipes with a 251, Quinton Durbin with a 212 and Matt Napper with a 203.

Game 2 was led by Calin Meeks with a 243 along with 215s from Ben Harmon and Pipes.

Harmon bowled a 252 in Game 3, while Pipes and Meeks bowled 214s.

In the championship, Hardin County took a 6-2 lead after Game 1 before taking all eight points in Game 2 for the 14-2 lead.

Meeks bowled a 255 to lead the Tigers in Game 1, while Pipes had a 250 and Napper a 203.

Pipes had the highest score of the day in Game 2 with a 269 to lead Hardin County bowlers with scores over 200.

Pipes finished with a 767 series in the championship match.
