Gallatin High senior Jordan Mason committed to Georgia Tech on Monday.

Gallatin senior Jordan Mason announced his commitment to play football at Georgia Tech on Monday.

The commitment comes a day after returning home from a visit to the school over the weekend.

Mason said he made the trip with commitment in mind if all went well, and for him, it did.

“I had to settle down, because it’s getting close to (National Signing Day) and commit to the school I really want to go to,” Mason said. “When I went to visit, I was just looking for a good time and if I had a good time and the coaches were all good to me, I was looking to commit. They made me feel at home when I went there.”

Commitments are nonbinding for the athlete and the school. He cannot sign until Feb. 1.

Mason was recruited as a running back after he rushed for 2,050 yards and 23 touchdowns on 259 carries this past season for the Green Wave.

“My career at Gallatin (has) helped me go a long way,” Mason said. “Coach (Mark) Williams pushing me and the other coaches pushing me to where I can commit to a high (level) school in the ACC. It means a lot.”

A short trip from Nashville for his family made a difference, as well.

“They can come and see my games,” Mason said. “It’s about three-and-a-half hours down, so I’m just happy that a college that (close) offered me and my family can get down there.”
