FAITH: TCA's Elliott following God's plan for life

TCA's Isaac Elliott (44) is a senior for the Lions' basketball team this season.

No matter where he turns, Christ is having an effect on the life of Trinity Christian Academy senior Isaac Elliott.

He attends a Christian school and his father is on staff at a local church. Both of those things helped lead Elliott to the decision to go into ministry after college.

“My freshman year I was at summer camp, and we had an invitation at the end of service,” Elliott said. “I felt God speaking to me and tugging at my heart that I needed to go into ministry. I can’t really explain how it happened. When you hear the Lord’s voice, you just know.”

So he made sure to share with the believers around him.

“During the invitation, they were passing the mic on what God had put on my heart,” Elliott said. “Ever since then I been trying to surround myself with my youth ministers and pastors to talk to them about their ministry.”

That might be a reason why Elliott likes to read about Paul in the Bible.

“Paul was a great evangelist, but no matter where he went or what persecution he received, he jumped right back up and kept preaching” Elliott said. “There was one instance when he was in the temple, and he was taken out of the temple and stoned. He was pretty torn up, and he walked right back in there and preaching the Gospel.”

Elliott believes that one area where he can share God’s love is through his actions on the basketball court.

“For me as a basketball player, I try to witness to the other team and fans anyway I can on the court,” Elliott said. “I try to help the other team up when they fall down, and I think that goes a long way. I also try to encourage my teammates and not tear them down.”

One quote that Elliott keeps as a reminder to how to live his life is Eric Lindell.

“He said, ‘I feel His pleasure when I run,’” he said. “Lindell was a famous runner that ran in the Olympics. I feel that when I am playing for God and the right things, I feel his pleasure.”

Elliott attends Englewood Baptist Church, where his father is on staff as the Pastor of Adult Ministries.

He attends youth on Wednesday and Sunday, has gone on mission trips, and helps with his dad ministry.

This past year, he went to Las Vegas for the mission trip.

“We had a previous youth minister go out there with a friend a start a church,” Elliott said. “They bought a building, so we were ripping up carpet, painting walls and doing various housekeeping things like weeding and power washing.

“We also did some prayer walks to pray for the surrounding communities to open their heart to Christ. It was powerful to be out there with my friends. We also ran a church service.”

Through the years, Elliott has deepened his knowledge of God.

“Ultimately, God is my Savior,” he said. “I wouldn’t be the person I am without Him.

“He dies on the cross for my sins, and I placed my trust in Him at a young age. I try to glorify Him in all that I do.”

Isaac Elliott's favorite verse

Galations 2:20 (NIV) --  I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God,who loved me and gave himself for me.
