POW: Jarrett has Haywood rolling over opponents

USA TODAY NETWORK – Tennessee
Haywood's Tristan Jarrett (13) drives against South Side at Haywood High School in Brownsville, Tenn., on Dec. 2, 2016.

Last week, Haywood senior Tristan Jarrett shared Player of the Week honors with his teammate Dedric Boyd. But this week, Jarrett is taking center stage.

Jarrett helped the Tomcats pick up two District 15-AA wins on the week.

Haywood has now won six straight games and 13 of its last 15. The two losses along that streak have been to South Side by 13 and Lausanne by one.

Jarrett scored 39 points on Tuesday as the Tomcats pulled away from Millington, and then on Friday, he scored 26 against one of Haywood's biggest rivals Covington.

Through the first eight weeks of his senior season, Jarrett has proven that he is a multi-dimensional player that is working hard to keep Haywood as one of the top teams in the state. He has the height to play around the rim to provide points in the paint and rebounds, but he can also play on the perimeter, handling the ball and being able to drive to the basket.

Jarrett played a minor role in the 2015 Class AA state tournament run, but now he wants to try a be a part of new history with the Tomcats.

Haywood took some losses early against teams like Sheffield, Memphis Central and White Station, but Jarrett and the rest of the Tomcats look to have learned their lessons from those losses as they have been hard to beat as of late.

The biggest game of the season, thus far, comes up on Tuesday when Haywood must travel to Ripley in an attempt to keep its undefeated record in district play intact. Ripley is the defending District 15-AA champion.

The Tomcats also have a home game against North Side on Friday coming up.
