Tennessean Midstate basketball Top 10: Boys

A look at the top boys high school basketball teams in Middle Tennessee, as ranked by the USA Today Network of Tennessee.

1. Brentwood Academy (16-2) — The Eagles made a big statement with Wednesday’s 89-70 win over top-ranked East/Middle Region foe McCallie. Last week: No. 1. 

2. Summit (16-2) — The Spartans bounced back from their 21-point loss to nationally ranked Hamilton Heights by beating District 11-AAA foes Independence and Dickson County. Last week: No. 2. 

3. Blackman (16-2) — The District 7-AAA leading Blaze have strung together 11 straight wins since suffering a 57-54 loss to fellow Class AAA title contender Oak Ridge on Dec. 10. Last week: No. 3.

4. Brentwood (18-3) — The Bruins, who've strung together five straight wins, can avenge their lone District 11-AAA defeat with a win over Summit on Tuesday. Last week: No. 4. 

5. Whites Creek (17-3) — The Cobras, unbeaten in District 10-AA play, captured a huge non-league win Saturday in Memphis, edging Ripley 66-65 in the AA Classic at Fayette Ware High School. Last week: No. 5. 

6. Maplewood (15-5) — The Panthers, currently second in the District 10-AA standings, have posted a pair of impressive wins since reigning Mr. Basketball Bo Hodges made his return Friday. Last week: NR. 

7. Springfield (16-4) — The Yellow Jackets extended their winning streak to four games with last week’s District 10-AAA triumphs over Rossview and West Creek. Last week: No. 10. 

8. Gallatin (17-4) — The Green Wave, coming off a 48-39 win at Wilson Central, are seated atop the District 9-AAA standings despite Tuesday’s two-point loss to rival Station Camp. Last week: No. 9. 

9. Ensworth (12-6) — The Tigers followed up Tuesday’s surprising loss to Baylor with consecutive wins against Pope John Paul II and Christ Presbyterian Academy. Last week: No. 8.

10. Oakland (15-3) — The Patriots, winners of seven in a row, can claim first place in the District 7-AAA standings with a win against crosstown rival Blackman on Monday. Last week: NR.
