Savannah Lee sets TCA rebounding record

Michael Odom, USA TODAY NETWORK – Tennessee
Trinity Christian Academy's Savannah Lee (22) looks to go up against the defense of Lexington's Kyla Taylor (33) and Trinity Beard (20) during the semifinals of the HUB City Classic.

With over a year left in her high school career, Trinity Christian Academy junior Savannah Lee has already put her name in the program's record books.

On Friday night, Lee broke the all-time rebounding record for TCA as the Lady Lions beat Middleton on the road.

"This record means a lot," Lee said. "Rebounding is just something that I have always tried to do."

Lee feels that rebounding is something personal.

"No one else can control how you rebound," Lee said. "Rebounding is all about getting in the right position."

Lee entered Monday's game against Westview with 656 rebounds in her career with the Lady Lions, passing Samantha Van Cleave (2010-14), who finished with 645.

Lee also passed Jamie Vaile (2003-07) this season.

Breaking the record is something that Lee has wanted to do, but she wasn't really aware of how close she was until this season.

"I knew coming into this year I was close to 500," Lee said. "After I got to 500 rebounds, they told me there were two girls ahead of me, so I kept doing my thing every game."

Lee is also a solid scorer for the Lady Lions as she is averaging a double-double.

"I just try to play my game," Lee said. "Rebounding helps my team, and I try to do everything I can to help my team."

Savannah is the daughter of Kristen (Goehring) Lee, who was an All-American from North Side, who went on to play at Ole Miss.

1,000 points: Another West Tennessee basketball player has added his name to the list of players to score 1,000 points in their career.

Clarksburg junior Devin Wildridge scored his 1,000th point earlier this season against Gleason.
