McMinn Central High School senior guard Jacobi Lynn scored a career-high 43 points in Tuesday’s 86-49 win over Meigs County despite hurting her ankle in the first quarter.

Lynn, who has signed with Chattanooga, was held out of McMinn Central’s past two games – Thursday’s 69-66 win at Maryville and Friday’s 66-27 win over Polk County.

McMinn Central coach Johnny Morgan said Lynn was injured Tuesday when she took a charge and the Meigs player fell on her foot.

The Chargerettes (20-3, 7-0 District 5-AA) play at Sweetwater on Monday in a makeup game. McMinn Central has won seven consecutive games since a Jan. 3 loss to Upperman.

“We practice Sunday afternoon,” Morgan said Saturday. “I told (Lynn) I’d see how she’s moving on (her ankle). It’s barely swollen. She even said she could play Thursday and Friday.”

Morgan said Lynn first turned her ankle as a sophomore against Bradley Central and missed a couple of games, reinjured the ankle last summer in AAU ball, but recovered in time for this high school season.

With Lynn out, sophomore Melia Baker has started at shooting guard with another sophomore guard, Carlie Runyon, coming off the bench.

Runyon had 14 points against Maryville and Baker had 12.

“Both of them can play,” Morgan said. “They can start for most people. It’s not like Jacobi’s the only player we have. She’s a big part of it.”

Lynn, averaging 22 points per game, has a chance of breaking McMinn Central’s career scoring record of 2,599 points held by Elizabeth Masengil, the 2012 Class AA Miss Basketball winner.

“She needs about 300 points (to break the record),” Morgan said. “I looked at it and thought if we can make it to sub-state, and even if we got beat, she needs to average 26 points per game. She’s capable of it.”

G-P Girls Beat Fulton: Qua Hines scored 15 points and led Gatlinburg-Pittman’s girls to a 60-52 victory over host Fulton on Friday night.

Hines, who played her freshman season at Fulton, had two 3-pointers.

Freshman guard Shelby Moore had 13 points and two 3-pointers and senior guard Rylie Patterson had 12 points.

G-P (16-4, 5-1 District 3-AA) has handed Fulton (16-4, 6-2) both of its district losses this season. The Lady Highlanders were coming off a 43-37 loss at Austin-East on Tuesday night, which snapped their nine-game winning streak.

“I think the girls knew they had played poorly (against Austin-East),” G-P coach Katie Moore said Saturday. “So the two days of practice before we went to play Fulton were very competitive.

“I think they definitely knew they had to show up or they’d get run out of the gym at Fulton.”

Fulton post/forward KeKe McKinney, a Kentucky signee, had 18 points against G-P.

Carter Rolls: Bailey Trumm scored 26 points as Carter’s girls beat visiting Austin-East 88-38 Friday night.

The Lady Hornets (15-7, 5-3 District 3-AAA) have won five consecutive games and are vying for the program’s first winning season since the 2001-02 team went 21-9.

Larriana Bullard had 26 points for Austin-East.
