Basketball roundup: MTCS, Eagleville girls bow out of 9-A Tournament

The girls teams from Middle Tennessee Christian and Eagleville both bowed out of the District 9-A Basketball Tournament Monday.

The fifth-seeded Lady Cougars (15-13) came from a big, early deficit only to fall in overtime, 55-49, to No. 4 Community.

The Viqueens outscored the Lady Cougars 10-4 in the extra period after Camden Adams sent the game into OT with a 3-pointer.

MTCS trailed 21-10 after one quarter but came back to outscore Community 19-3 in the second quarter to take a 29-24 halftime lead.

Things continued to go back and forth as the Viqueens outscored MTCS 16-4 in the third period before the Lady Cougars made another comeback in the fourth.

Adams finished with a team-high 18 points for MTCS while Tennessee Tech signee Abby Buckner added 12 points and seven rebounds and Kayla Taylor netted nine.

Eagleville, which was playing its best ball down the stretch, led by 10 at halftime before a furious comeback by Huntland gave the No. 3 seeds a 50-43 win.

No. 6 Eagleville (14-14) had defeated Fayetteville in a play-in game earlier in the tournament.

On Monday the Lady Eagles outscored Huntland 7-3 in the first and 15-9 in the second to build a 22-12 halftime lead. However, Huntland outscored Eagleville 18-6 in the third to take the lead and pulled away in the final frame.

Ryleigh Cobb and Tori Laidig each scored 14 for Eagleville while Karah Snell netted 12.

Riverdale 74, Baylor 51: The top-ranked Lady Warriors improved to 25-0, jumping out to a big lead early and cruising to the win.

Riverdale outscored Baylor 16-4 in the first period and 25-11 in the second to build a commanding 41-15 halftime lead.

University of Tennessee signee and McDonald's All-American Anastasia Hayes scored 18 to lead the Lady Warriors while Amanda Whittington added 13, senior Allison Mayeaux tossed in 12 and Aislynn Hayes netted 11.
