Peabody’s Khance Hill turns downfield against Humboldt during their game last season.

Khance Hill is a dynamic two-sport athlete at Peabody High School, excelling as a tight end in football and a big man under the goal for the basketball team.

He got his first NCAA Division I scholarship offer Friday morning when Indiana made him an offer.

“I’ve had a lot of interest from a bunch of schools with emails and calls and letters in the mail. Just no offers,” Hill said.

That changed Friday morning when he received a text message from Indiana offensive coordinator Mike DeBord, formerly the offensive coordinator at Tennessee.

“He texted me at 6:31 this morning asking if I had time to talk, and I told him yeah,” Hill said. “We talked for a few minutes, and he told me they wanted me to come to Indiana.

“They like the way I play the tight end position and think I can help them.”

There was discussion of Hill possibly going to Indiana next weekend for a basketball game, but he said that depends on whether the Golden Tide basketball team is still playing at that point. They lost to Humboldt in the District 14-A semifinals on Thursday and will play Halls in the consolation game Saturday at UT Martin before playing in the Region 7-A tournament next week.

Hill said he’s 6 feet 6 inches tall and 220 pounds. The last time he ran a 40-yard dash was last summer before football season, and he was clocked at 4.84 seconds. His bench max is 240 pounds.

“Khance has good size and has plenty of potential to be a good player in Division I at tight end or on the defensive line,” said Peabody head coach Shane Jacobs. “I’m just glad he got this offer because he’s good enough to deserve it.”
