Five CBHS wrestlers advance to finals

Five wrestlers — all from CBHS — will compete for state championships as the TSSAA Division 2 state wrestling championships wrap up Saturday at the Williamson County Expo Center in Franklin.

Leading the way are Trevor Brown and Tommy Brackett, both of whom finished runner-up in 2016.

Brown pinned Dolan Eckhart of Battle Ground Academy in 1:56 and scored a 15-6 major decision over Joseph Tarquine of Montgomery Bell Academy to advance to the 138-pound final for the second straight year. He'll face Jospeh Vogelpohl of Father Ryan.

Brackett, who finished second at 160 last year, qualified for the 195-pound final with by scoring a technical fall victory over Sam Reynolds of Chattanooga Baylor and then decisioning Ryan Kosson of Montgomery Bell Academy, 7-1. He'll square off against Andrew Wesnofske of Father Ryan.

Jackson Herring will compete for the title at 113 after needing less than four minutes total to pin Adam Garfinkel of MBA and Porter Kaufman of Chattanooga Baylor. Herring will face Christian Simpson of Father Ryan.

Eric Hodge advanced to a 160-pound final against Connor Duffy of Baylor after pinning MBA's Ben Doyte in 5:17 and decisioning Thomas Wells of MUS, 3-1. Grayson Walthall advanced at 220, pinning Tyson Strickland of Friendship Christian in just eight seconds before pinning Briarcrest's Josiah Fahhoum in 5:22. Walthall will take on George Hooker of Father Ryan for the championship.

Four other CBHS wrestlers lost in the semifinals, Charles Salvaggio (106), Conner Rasberry (132), Montana Doty (170) and Patrick Healy (285). Briarcrest's Ian Tiatian lost in the semis at 182.

Four AAA wrestlers — three from Arlington — lost in the semifinals. Michael Cannon (113), Aaron Moore (182) and Alan Roaten (220) represented Arlington while Dawson Johnson represented Bartlett at 195.

The finals begin Saturday at 5 p.m.
