Roundup: Franklin Road Academy boys win region title

Franklin Road Academy claimed a region championship by defeating University School of Nashville 61-53 in Saturday’s Division II-A East/Middle championship.

Tyler Roop tallied a team-high 16 points with two 3-pointers to lead the Panthers, who finished as state runners-up a season ago, while Richmond football signee Jack Doherty and Watson Tansil combined to score 27 for FRA (23-10), which outscored USN 21-9 in the decisive third quarter.

Myles Hamilton finished with a game-high 21 points for the Tigers (19-11), while Drew Dibble added eight in the losing effort.

Independence 46, Brentwood 41: The Eagles captured their second consecutive District 11-AAA tournament championship by edging Brentwood 46-41. Belmont signee Grayson Murphy scored a game-high 16 points for Independence, while Kellen King scored 12 points to lead the Bruins.

Station Camp 51, Mt. Juliet 38: Senior guard Chase Freeman scored 28 points to lead the Bison to a 51-38 District 9-AAA semifinal win over Mt. Juliet. The Bison will square off against top-seeded Lebanon in Tuesday’s 8 p.m. championship.

Giles Co. 62, Christ Presbyterian Academy 54: CPA’s string of six consecutive district tournament championships was snapped with a 62-54 District 12-AA semifinal defeat against Giles County. K.J. Ziegler scored 18 points to lead the Bobcats, while Aspin Bush and Jordan Gilbert each finished with 15.

GIRLS

Dickson Co. 53, Centennial 41: Emily Beard finished with 20 points and three 3-pointers to help lead the Lady Cougars to a fifth consecutive district tournament championship. Centennial’s Malea Robertson scored a team-high 17 points in the losing effort.

Hillsboro 61, Cane Ridge 46: Devon Burns tallied 34 points and knocked down eight 3-pointers to lead the Lady Burros to a convincing 12-AAA championship win over Cane Ridge. Kentucky signee Dorie Harrison added 17 points in the win for Hillsboro.
