Tennessean Midstate basketball Top 10: Boys

A look at the top boys high school basketball teams in Middle Tennessee, as ranked by the USA Today Sports Network of Tennessee.

1. Brentwood Academy (27-2) – The Eagles, who finished 12-0 against region competition, will face either MUS or St. Benedict in Saturday’s state quarterfinals. Last week: No. 1.

2. Blackman (23-3) – The Blaze can secure their second consecutive District 7-AAA tournament title with a win against rival Oakland on Tuesday. Last week: No. 2.

3. Whites Creek (24-4) – The Cobras, coming off a 62-46 semifinal win against Pearl-Cohn, will take on East Nashville in Tuesday’s District 10-AA championship at Stratford. Last week: No. 4.

4. Springfield (23-5) – The Yellow Jackets, one win away from locking up a second straight District 10-AAA tournament title, will take on Northeast in Wednesday's championship. Last week: No. 6.

5. Maplewood (21-6) – Mr. Basketball finalist Bo Hodges’ 34 points weren't enough in Saturday’s 72-61 District 10-AA semifinal loss to East Nashville. Last week: No. 3.

6. Cane Ridge (23-5) – The Ravens, coming off their first District 12-AAA tournament title, will host Centennial in Saturday’s Region 6-AAA quarterfinals. Last week: NR.

7. Antioch (22-5) – The District 12-AAA runner-up Bears, who’ll host Summit in Saturday’s Region 6-AAA quarterfinals, are coming off their first loss in nearly two months. Last week: No. 5

8. Independence (19-10) – The Eagles, winners of eight in a row, captured their second consecutive District 11-AAA tournament title with Saturday’s 46-41 win over Brentwood. Last week: NR.

9. Brentwood (23-7) – Second-year coach Greg Shirley and the District 11-AAA runner-up Bruins will host Hillsboro in Saturday’s Region 6-AAA quarterfinals. Last week: No. 8.

10. Macon County (25-4) – The Tigers notched their 14th straight win Saturday, securing the District 8-AA tournament title with a 53-42 triumph over Upperman. Last week: No. 9.
