South-Doyle QB Caleb Wender signs with Carson-Newman

South-Doyle High School quarterback Caleb Wender signed with Carson-Newman last week.

Wender threw for 2,465 yards and 21 touchdowns in 2016 and completed 57 percent of his passes (179 of 315). He also rushed for 141 net yards (352 gained, 211 lost) and six touchdowns.

South-Doyle bounced back from an 0-10 season in 2015 and last fall finished 8-6 and reached the Class 5A state semifinals before losing to state champion Farragut.

Jeffers to Sign Friday: Sevier County senior tight end/defensive end Izic Jeffers will sign papers with Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Friday at 2 p.m. at the high school.

Rose-Hulman, located in Terre Haute, Ind., is one of the world’s most prestigious engineering schools, and the football team is coming off a historic season.

The Fightin’ Engineers reached the NCAA Division III playoffs for the first time in program history in 2016 and finished 8-3 after a first-round loss to North Central College.

Dunn Signs with Arkansas: Grace Christian Academy senior Allie Dunn officially signed to play soccer for Arkansas last week.

The PrepXtra first-team player set a state record for goals in a season as a senior with 76 and tied the state record for career goals with 215 as Grace (21-2) won its first region title and reached state for the first time.

Glies to Johnson University: Berean Christian School senior Dani Glies will play soccer for Johnson University.

Glies played defender the past two seasons at Berean and also played basketball. Before going to Berean, Glies played soccer and ran cross country and track for two years at University Christian School in Jacksonville, Fla.
