Central Magnet boys earn Region 4-AA upset; MTCS moves on in 5-A

Patrick Blair scored 20 points as Central Magnet won its Region 4-AAA quarterfinal contest Saturday.

Central Magnet's boys basketball team pulled off an upset on the road at Sequatchie County Saturday evening, topping the hosts 67-47 to advance to the Region 4-AA semifinals.

"The guys played well," said CMS coach Doug Worsley. "(Sequatchie County) came out and hit their first couple of shots, but we stuck with the game plan and played well."

The Tigers (18-13) will battle Macon County in the region semis on Tuesday at 7:30 at Tennessee Tech.

"Round four," said Worsley, whose squad lost to top seed Macon County three times this season (twice by just two points).

Patrick Blair scored 20 points to lead the Tigers while Will Carver added 19.

The Tigers had a huge first half, outscoring Sequatchie County 17-12 in the first quarter and 18-10 in the second to build a 35-22 lead at intermission.

Wes Duffield added 13 points for Central Magnet.

Region 5-A

MTCS 60, East Robertson 39: The No. 1 seed Cougars cruised to the Region 5-A semifinals with Saturday's home win.

The Cougars (25-4) will battle district foe Community in the region semifinals Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Eagleville High School.

MTCS outscored East Robertson 14-6 in the first and 22-8 in the second to build a 36-14 halftime lead.

Barr Ellenburg scored 16 points, Steven Turnham 11 and Kavan Hill 10 to lead MTCS. Nate Howell contributed nine.

LEAD Acad. 73, Eagleville 48: The Eagles saw their season come to an end in the Region 5-A semifinals.

LEAD Academy led 36-20 at halftime and never looked back.

Eric Hawks scored 16 points for Eagleville while Ethan Cobb netted 10.
