MURFREESBORO — South Greene won its seventh girls state basketball championship on Saturday, defeating Clarkrange 66-57 in the Class A final at Middle Tennessee State University’s Murphy Center.

South Greene (35-4) hit nine 3-pointers — five of those coming from Kinsley Wykle, who finished with 15 points off the bench. Taylor Lamb led the Lady Rebels with 19 points, while Kara Meadows paced Clarkrange (27-11) with a game-high 28 points.

The Lady Rebels' title was their second straight. Clarkrange was attempting to win its ninth title.

“We didn’t care if it was the Golden State Warriors tonight — we were going to give the effort,” South Greene coach Stephen Gregg said. “It is an honor to beat a legendary coach and such tradition that Clarkrange has.”

South Greene held a 16-3 edge in offensive rebounding.

“The putbacks on offensive rebounds were bad,” Clarkrange coach Lamar Rogers said. “We shot 62 percent for the game — that’s outstanding. But (South Greene) just had more attempts for the offensive rebounds.”
