High school roundup: Siegel, Smyrna, Stewarts Creek get Grand Slam Tournament wins

Siegel's baseball team scored four runs over the first two innings and held off Dobyns-Bennett 5-3 in the Grand Slam Tournament Friday.

Baseball

Jaden Lasley had a big night on the hill, tossing a complete game, allowing just four hits, one earned run and no walks while striking out eight.

Siegel (4-1) got the offense it needed despite just three hits. The Stars took advantage of seven walks and six Dobyns-Bennett errors.

Drew Benefield was 1-for-3 with a triple, run scored and RBI while Ryker Kristinus had two RBIs.

Smyrna and Stewarts Creek both captures wins on the day. The Bulldogs knocked off Cleveland 4-1 in six innings before rains came. The Red Hawks rolled past Cleveland 11-1 earlier in the evening.

Riverdale settled for a 2-2 tie against Science Hill before rains washed the game after six innings.

The Warriors scored both of their runs in the first inning, thanks to a two-run, inside-the-part home run by Peyton Henderson.

Nathan Potter carried a shutout into the sixth inning and settled for a three-hitter with one earned run allowed.

In the earlier game at Riverdale, Central Magnet downed Science Hill 14-9 as Dylan Jenkins earned the win on the mound. Trey Campbell and Chris Johnson had big games offensively for the Tigers.

Beech downed La Vergne 10-2 and knocked off Blackman 5-2 in the tourney

Soccer

Riverdale 5, Warren Co. 0: Yonas Wosenu and Carter Nadeau each scored two goals as the Warriors rolled, scoring three first-half goals.

Zach Gravatt also scored a goal for Riverdale while Ahren Smith earned the shutout in goal for Riverdale.

Commando Classic

Stewarts Creek's softball team earned a blowout win in the Commando Classic, defeating Springfield 9-0 before rains washed away their second contest of the evening.

Blackman earned a 5-2 win over Lawrence County in the Classic while Siegel fell for the first time, losing 5-3 to Gibbs.
