High school baseball roundup: Siegel evens series with Oakland

Zach Pearson was brillant on the mound for the Siegel, tossing a complete-game three-hitter, walking one and striking out eight as the Stars defeated Oakland 9-0 Thursday evening at OHS.

Baseball

The Stars evened up the three-game series to improve to 7-2 overall, 4-1 in 7-AAA play.

Ryker Kristinus provided a big bat for Siegel, going 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. Drew Benefield had three hits, including two doubles, and three RBIs for the Stars while Matt McCurry had two hits, three runs and an RBI. Zach Bondurant and Trey Campbell each had two hits.

Jacob Pennington had two hits for Oakland.

The two teams play the finale on Friday at Siegel at 6.

Riverdale 4, Stewarts Creek 2 (11 innings): Peyton Henderson's two-out, two-run double in the 11th broke a tie and helped the Warriors take two of three in the District 7-AAA series.

Riverdale improved to 8-1-1 overall, 5-1 in league play. Stewarts Creek fell to 4-5, 2-4.

Starting pitcher Sam Braswell was strong on the hill, allowing just one earned run in 5.1 innings and was also 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs.

Henderson was huge at the plate for the Warriors, going 4-for-5 with the double and two RBIs

La Vergne 4, Smyrna 1: The Wolverines have taken the first two in the three-game series with their rivals, thanks to another strong outing on the hill.

Anthony Norman hurled La Vergne to the win to improve the Wolverines to 2-3 in 7-AAA play. Evan Potter was 2-for-3 with a double for Smyrna (0-5 in 7-AAA).

Blackman 15, Coffee Co. 5: D.J. Wright was 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs as Blackman took the lead for good in the second on his two-run single and then plated eight in the third to pull away in the five-inning game.

Peyton Milam also collected three hits while Zavien Lindsey drove home three and Mateo Lozano was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.

Central Magnet 5, Ooltewah 4 (8 innings): Hayden Locum went 3-for-4, Hunter Jones 2-for-3 and C.J. Campbell 2-for-4 to help the Tigers (6-1) get the extra-inning win.

Tyler Hogue pitched the seventh and eighth innings to earn the win.
