Prep Roundup: Beech’s Ian McWilliams throws no-hitter

Beech High senior Ian McWilliams threw a no-hitter in the Buccaneers’ 12-0, five-inning victory over McNairy Central on Wednesday at the Gulf Coast Classic in Gulf Shores, Ala.

McWilliams struck out 11 hitters and did not walk any. McNairy Central’s lone baserunner came by way of a fourth-inning error.

Beech scored all of its runs in the first two innings – five in the first and seven in the second inning.

Ryan Mortensen finished 3-for-3 with two doubles and two runs batted in. Chase Waller and Nelson Smith also drove in two runs for the Buccaneers.

Crawford drove in three runs, while Smith collected four RBI in the victory. Michael Hayes struck out 10 hitters, allowing one run on four hits to collect the victory.
