Oakland's softball team took advantage of back-to-back errors to plate the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning, defeating rival Siegel 6-5 Thursday evening at Nelson Smotherman Field.

Oakland first baseman Maleia Gray flips to first for an out during Thursday's 6-5 win over Siegel.

The Lady Patriots (1-1 7-AAA) actually built a 4-0 lead late in the contest but things ended up back-and-forth after Siegel (1-1, 4-2) plated two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh to take a 5-4 lead.

After falling behind for the first time in the game, Oakland tied things with a run in the bottom of the seventh as freshman pitcher Sophie Golliver lined a shot to center to score Shelby Sargent.

After a 1-2-3 top of the eighth, Oakland rallied with two outs in the bottom of the frame. Alexys Haskins singled, stole second, moved to third on an error and scored the winning run on another error.

"We just had to relax and be up (in the dugout) and play as a team," said Golliver, who earned the win on the mound.

Oakland scored two in each the third and fifth innings to build the lead. Michelle Williams' two-run double gave the hosts a 2-0 lead and Maleia Gray's two-run single in the fifth made it 4-0.

Siegel cut it to 4-2 in the sixth when Caitlyn McCrary and Madison Levi both had hits and came around to score.

The Lady Stars plated three in the top of the seventh. Presley Leebrick's two-run single tied things and an RBI groundout by Ciera Purvis gave the visitors a brief 5-4 lead.

Kara Beasley had two hits for Siegel while Sargent, Gray and Williams each had two hits for Oakland.

Central Magnet 10, Upperman 3: The Lady Tigers improved to 2-0 in 8-AA and 7-2 overall with the blowout win.

Kali Penny had a big day, tossing a four-hitter and going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Abby Frazier belted a homer and was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs for Central Magnet. Ashley Dyer and Alyssa Ward were both 2-for-4 with a double.
