14 chosen to play in all-star basketball games

The Nashville area will have plenty of representation at next month’s Basketball Coaches Association of Tennessee/Tennessee Athletic Coaches Association all-star basketball games.

In total, 14 high school basketball players and three coaches from Middle Tennessee will be taking part in the annual all-star event, which is set for next Saturday at Cookeville High School. The girls game will tip off at noon and the boys game will follow at 2 p.m.

Nine Midstate girls are expected to suit up for the East squad, including Smyrna’s Keisha Brady, Oakland’s Maddie Cook, Clarkrange’s Kara Meadows, Stewarts Creek’s Brianna Ferby and Brandi Ferby, Wilson Central’s Addison Byrd, Huntland's Ali Golden, Dickson County's Emily Beard and East Nashville’s Erica Haynes-Overton.

An MTSU signee, Meadows claimed Miss Basketball honors while leading the Lady Buffaloes to a Class A runner-up finish, while Haynes-Overton, an ETSU signee, averaged close to a triple-double for the Class AA finalist Lady Eagles.

Riverdale’s Randy Coffman and Clarkrange’s Lamar Rogers will coach the East team.

In boys action, two-time Mr. Basketball Bo Hodges of Maplewood and Christ Presbyterian’s Clay Washburn, along with a trio of Division I signees in Independence’s Grayson Murphy (Belmont), Blackman’s Donovan Sims (MTSU) and Summit’s John Carter (Navy), be playing for the East team.

Blackman’s Barry Wortman, along with Oak Ridge’s Aaron Green, will coach the East squad.
