HENDERSONVILLE Beech High’s softball team found an appropriate way to open District 9-AAA play.

Kailey Brown’s walk-off solo home run gave the Lady Buccaneers a 3-2 victory over visiting Wilson Central at Veterans Park.

Breakdown of Tuesday’s game:

Records: Wilson Central 9-5, 0-1 in District 9-AAA; Beech 13-2, 1-0.

Nuts and bolts: Wilson Central led most of the way after taking advantage of a Beech error in the top of the first inning, but the Lady Wildcats stranded nine runners on base – seven of those in the first three innings.

A Carly Sperlich single tied the game in the bottom of the sixth and a Jessica Arrington squeeze gave the Lady Buccaneers a 2-1 lead moments later.

Kailey Brown rounds the bases following her walk-off home run in Tuesday’s 3-2 victory over Wilson Central.

Wilson Central’s Kaylee Richetto doubled in Alaina Morris to tie the game in the top of the seventh inning.

Turning point: Brown led off the bottom of the seventh, taking the fifth pitch over the center field fence to end the contest.

Top performers: Brown went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Lady Buccaneers, while Richetto had two hits for Wilson Central. Mackenzie Williams retired 12 consecutive batters after allowing six Wilson Central hits in the first three innings.

Quotable: “I didn’t know that the game was over,” said Brown on her walk-off homer. “I was wondering why everyone was lining up.”

Next up: Wilson Central travels to Mt. Juliet on Wednesday. Beech travels to Gallatin on Thursday.
