Tennessean All-Midstate boys basketball team

The top high school athletes from Middle Tennessee will converge at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center on June 6 for The Tennessean’s second annual Sports Awards presented by Farm Bureau Health Plans.

Tickets are on sale for the event, which will feature Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota as the guest speaker.

FIRST TEAM

Finalists for Boys Basketball Player of the Year

Darius Garland

Darius Garland, Brentwood Academy

Basics: 6-1, Jr., G

College: Arizona State, Auburn, Baylor, Duke, Indiana, Kansas, Louisville, Memphis, Ohio State, Tennessee, UCLA, USC, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Wake Forest and Xavier have offered.

Two-time Mr. Basketball recipient averaged 23.4 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.1 steals, helping lead the Eagles to a third straight Division II-AA state title.

Tyreke Key

Tyreke Key, Clay County

Basics: 6-3, Sr., G

College: Signed with Indiana State

Mr. Basketball recipient averaged 37.3 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.2 steals during a record-setting senior campaign for the Class A runner-up Bulldogs.

Grayson Murphy

Grayson Murphy, Independence

Basics: 6-1, Sr., G

College: Signed with Belmont

Averaged 19.7 points, 8.9 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 3.1 steals, helping lead the Class AAA semifinalist Eagles to their best finish in school history.

Bo Hodges

Bo Hodges, Maplewood

Basics: 6-3, Sr., F

College: Signed with East Tennessee State

Two-time Mr. Basketball recipient led Maplewood to its first Class AA state title in program history, averaging 26 points and 12 rebounds.

Ruot Monyyong

Ruot Monyyong, Whites Creek

Basics: 6-9, Sr., C

College: Considering several junior colleges

Deceptively nimble big man averaged 18.8 points, 16.3 rebounds and 8.5 blocks per game for the Class AA semifinalist Cobras.
