High school roundup: Central Magnet soccer team improves to 6-0

WOODBURY - Central Magnet's soccer team improved to 2-0 in District 8-AA and 6-0 overall with a 6-0 win over Cannon County Tuesday evening.

The Tigers scored three goals in each half to roll to the easy victory.

Nick Hamlett and Steven Falter each scored two goals to lead the way for the Tigers.

Jakada Jack and Falter scored goals within the first 10 minutes to give the visitors a 2-0 lead. Falter's second goal in the 33rd minute increased the advantage to 3-0 at intermission.

Luis Sanchez scored on a penalty kick in the 67th minute to make it 4-0. Sanchez Daniel Woods each had assists.

Hamlett tallied two goals in the final 11 minutes to put things away.

Nathan Clark and Russell Harper combined to preserve the clean sheet in goal.

Oakland 3, Blackman 0: The Patriots (5-0-2, 3-0-2) continued their shutout streak in Tuesday's 7-AAA win.

Nicolas Montano, Garrett Taylor and Jorge Hernandez all scored goals for Oakland while Jakob Hurst collected the clean sheet in goal. Noor Lalani had an assist for the Patriots.

Stewarts Creek 2, Siegel 1: The Red Hawks received goals from Jaime Soria Minor and Clark Smith to edge the Stars in a 7-AAA battle.

Minor's goal came unassisted and Smith netted a penalty kick.

St. Andrews-Sewanee 7, Providence Christian 1: St. Andrews built a 4-1 halftime lead and never looked back in Tuesday's win over the Lions.

David Lukasick scored his third goal of the season in the 26th minute for PCA's lone score. Camden Marasco assisted on the goal.

Cole Hodges had 21 saves for the Lions.

Baseball

Stewarts Creek 7, Siegel 0: The Red Hawks struck first in a pivotal 7-AAA series Tuesday evening, thanks to strong pitching.

Austin Steel was dominant on the mound for SCHS (9-4 7-AAA), tossing a complete-game one-hitter, walking three and striking out nine.

C. Vondohlen went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs for Stewarts Creek while Daniel Freeman was 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.

Matt McCurry collected the lone hit for Siegel (8-5 7-AAA). MTSU commitment Zac Pearson was touched up for seven hits and six runs (only three earned) in 3.2 innings.

The two play again Wednesday at 6:30 at Stewarts Creek.

Blackman 3, Oakland 2: The Blaze remained in sole possession of first place (8-2) in District 7-AAA by winning the first of a three-game series against the Patriots (3-7 7-AAA).

Jacob Jones and Derick Junker combined to scatter seven hits, allowing two runs and striking out eight. Jones went the first 4.1 innings while Junker recorded the final eight outs for the save.

Connor Williamson, Peyton Milam and D.J. Wright each drove home a run for Blackman. Wright was 2-for-3 with a double.

Tennessee commitment Jacob Pennington had two hits and an RBI for Oakland.

Riverdale 11, Smyrna 1: The Warriors got revenge at home and evened the series at 1-1 with the Bulldogs.

Trae McLemore fired five innings of three-hit ball, allowing just one run, to get the win.

Offensively Riverdale (7-4 7-AAA) was paced by Sam Braswell, who was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Paxton Hughes was 2-for-2 with a double and RBI.

Central Magnet 6, Smith Co. 0: The Tigers won their second straight over their 8-AA rivals, improving to 8-0 in league play (14-6 overall) and taking over sole possession of first place.

Chris Johnson (5-0) struck out nine batters in earning the shutout win. Hayden Locum provided an offensive boost, going 3-for-4 with a two-run homer.

Softball

Siegel 17, La Vergne 1: The Lady Stars exploded offensively, improving to 4-2 in 7-AAA and 14-10 overall.

Caitlyn McCray hit her second homer of the season while Vanessa Westfall added a triple and Madison Levi a double in the blowout.

Siegel battles at Stewarts Creek on Thursday in a key league contest.
