Ron Lambert was 36-38 in seven seasons at Rossview.

Whites Creek on Thursday hired former Rossview coach Ron Lambert to serve as the Cobras’ next football coach.

Lambert, who led Rossview to the playoffs in three of the past four years, replaces former Cobras coach Tyrus Ward, who left for Brainerd in February.

“I took some time off after I resigned from Rossview, and I really just kind of wanted to get my wind back,” said Lambert, who led the Hawks to a 36-38 record in seven seasons. “I’ve been going at it non-stop for 24 years, and I just kind of wanted to wrap my arm around the opportunities that I might have.”

Lambert, who lives in Nashville, called it a “natural fit.”

“I was driving to Clarksville every day, so just travel and proximity had a lot to do with it,” said Lambert, who lives a little over a mile from Whites Creek. “I attend Mt. Zion Church which is right up the street, and a lot of the kids frequent that church. It was kind of just the right fit.”

Lambert, who played defensive back at Wake Forest from 1990-92, inherits a Whites Creek program that is coming off consecutive 3-7 seasons. The Cobras managed just one win in the three years prior.

“I know that they’ve had some struggles the past few years, but there’s nothing I like more than a challenge,” Lambert said. “Going into Rossview I faced similar challenges. Although this is certainly a different type of challenge, I’m looking forward to it.”
