When Mike Greer left Henry County four years ago, he felt that there was unfinished business for him to do with the Patriots.

Greer will have a chance to finish that business after he was named the boys basketball coach at Henry County on Monday, leaving Westview after two seasons.

"Coaching at Henry County was a coaching goal of mine from the first time I coached middle school ball," Greer said. "I grew up there, and I got the opportunity four years ago. But I had to leave because of a family situation, so I only stayed one year. I never thought I would have another opportunity, but now I do."

Greer replaces Pete Angelos, who was named the boys basketball coach at South Fulton two weeks ago.

"In my 11 years at Weakley County, South Fulton always looked like a really good job," Angelos said. "The fans are supportive and the fans travel well. They always brought a lot of people to our home games."

Angelos coached at Greenfield before taking the job at Henry County, so he knows what to expect out of the teams in his district.

"I feel like I have a good feel for what the coaches do," Angelos said. "The district will be a little bit easier with Humboldt, Peabody, Halls and Gibson County moving out. I am hopeful that in the near future we can challenge for a district championship."

Westview coach Mike Greer reacts during the District 13-AA semifinal game against Crockett County at South Gibson High School in Jackson, Tenn., on Friday, Feb. 17, 2017.

Greer will be moving to Paris this time, and everything seems to be coming together.

"When I first went to Henry County, I had every intention of retiring there, and that is my intention now also," Greer said. "I have unfinished business getting the program where I want it. My daughter Addy will also be moving there to teach English in the middle school, so that made the decision a little easier."

But leaving Westview and the players he has coached for the past two seasons wasn't easy.

"I can't say enough good things about Westview," Greer said. "The people in Martin were very, very good to me. This team has a good group back with a great group moving up. We went from making program history with the team making the state tournament to a 19-5 season with all new guys."

But Greer is ready to put in the work at Henry County.

"There are lots of moving parts as I will get kids from two different school systems, but I am excited for the challenge," Greer said.
