Sumner Prep Roundup: Station Camp soccer blanks Hendersonville, clinches top seed
Chase Freeman scored two goals, and Station Camp had tallies from Riley Indermuehle and Tyler Jessen in handing visiting Hendersonville a 4-0 loss on Wednesday evening.
The Bison improved to 11-0-2 overall and 5-0 in District 9-AAA play, clinching the top seed for the district tournament with the victory.
Hendersonville fell to 5-5-3 overall and 2-1-2 in district play, tied with Wilson Central for second place.
Commando baseball splits with Beech
Hendersonville’s baseball team earned a split in their two-game series with a 3-0 victory over visiting Beech on Wednesday.
Hayden Mullins pitched a three-hit shutout for the Commandos (17-7, 7-3 9-AAA), striking out 12 Beech hitters for the victory. Hayden Layne went 2-for-2 at the plate with a triple and a run batted in for Hendersonville.
Ian McWilliams struck out 10 hitters for Beech, but suffered the loss. Beech can win the District 9-AAA North Division with a victory at Portland on Tuesday.
Lady Commandos fall to Wilson Central in high-scoring affair
Annsley Kalamon homered twice, Alex Beavers also homered and M.J. Mattei hit her first career home run, but it wasn’t enough for Hendersonville’s softball team in a 21-16 loss to visiting Wilson Central.
The Lady Wildcats led 8-3 after two innings and 12-6 after four frames. Hendersonville scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut Wilson Central’s lead to 13-12, but gave it all back in the top of the sixth as the Lady Wildcats answered with six runs to pull away.
