Gillies, who is a former Cookeville and Upperman girls basketball assistant, has most recently been the Upperman Middle girls coach. She has also been the coach of the Middle Tennessee Magic AAU team.

"Coach Gillies is connected to our community and is familiar with CHS and our feeder schools," Cookeville principal Lane Ward said in a release. "Not only is she well respected as a coach and educator, but she is known as a person of tremendous character and work ethic."

Cookeville finished 17-14 last season, falling to Bradley Central in the Region 3-AAA quarterfinals.
